Suse 9.1 in my PC

First i should say that i was annoyed seeing the irritating graphics that i saw during my installation, after which i continued my installation in text mode ( as per my friend’s advice) and finally got the thigns working fine.. i was thinking that graphics wont load properly, but i was wrong, it was awsome to see it load.

Second thing to note is that my monitor got a high resolution compatibility
I got 1152 @ 24 bit pix working, which i wasnt able to do in Angel’a monitor (LG!)

Happy to see, that my mp3s working right away…
and conencted to net very easily..

but no online update ( i dont know) so jus chking all my cds and rpms..
Nice interface and kool menus i like that way- sounds similar to mandrake 9.1, but mandrake 10 was slow and slow, but this suse is fast and i get things working very easily

But konqueror is old one.. so i wasnt able to chk gmail, when i started to downloaded, i was getting frm the first mail.. huh… bad, so i jus thought i could install firefox, i got some error “QT.. not able to display..” something, i wasnt in the mood to google, so jus stopped it. Kopete was also not connecting. So i downloaded the latest version of it lets see…..

and 2 iam using now….

the first one got 200+ mb filled within 2 months

the second one got 100+mb filled in an month..

The Code – Linux Movie :-O

I woke up frm sleep by about 11 Am, the reason is the calling bell struck 2 times, and i opened the door to see the courier boy.. he was asking for Archana.. well i was thinking , ” who the hell is that Archana? !! ” then i understood it is none other than me…

well i signed and got the cd pack( i usually get some cd packs.. frm my friends.. most of the time..), i dropped the pen down , and ofcourse asked sorry frm him and came inside to see who has sent me this time.. it is Balaji frm PSG… lol.. he sent frm cbe-cbe courier..

After continuing the sleep..i woke up by 12, and booted my pc and jus saw the code movie.. it was not a movie, it was jus a documentary and saw more abt linus torvalds and other people behind the opensource/free software movement…

I hate LG Monitor :(

I got Angel’s pc to my home and jus enjoying with the networking, practising all lot of stuff and jus started the code for the project , but the thing i hate the most is the resolution it has the max of 1024 x 768

i really hate it, i used to work in high resolution in my great samtron monitor. first i thought it woudl be a driver problem, then downloaded the latest driver, but still it is not working fine.. then posted in the grp, where i saw that many faced the same problem as i did… LG ppl cant u jus correct this issue..???

Poor fellows like me are suffering with big fonts..

i tried to customise, but they are not fine as we can see in a high resolution PC….bit unlucky in this stuff

What is so called “Freedom”?

Atlast i rather start looking deep into the freedom ideologies preached by RMS

When i heard this speech , an year back when i got the video in LFY cd, i was not much aware and didnt find it much intresting, since i felt that it is really ideological, like joe thought abt the verse ‘ideology’ in my mail…i thought this one need to be shelved, but nothing stopped me from broadcasting this video to my so called ‘friends’ who gave a glare and asked me to stop the video after jus few mins of talk….. I dont know why i was irritated @ that time.. I let them leave and thought that , its their ‘freedom’ to hear the talk or leave..

Some thing struck me @ that time, for which iam yet to find the answer. I asked my sister, abt her view , since i took her with me to VIT for the same RMS speech. She quoted ” It depends on the perspective one views it..”, may be she would have been right..

And, does freeing a code of a software will create a better society, iam not sure.. it is really confusing..
so i tried to put the 4 freedom rules (0,1,2,3) how ami to call.. rules? Rules in freedom…??? or may be laws–
in my mail signature and jus gave few posts in LUGs and to my friends in other domains… to jus see their views..i was not ready for any flame war, since i was not much clear with the “freedom”, i jus need some supplementary views so that i could come to a conclusion.

The first to ask was none other than Sriram (CNUG)..
he was insisting a point that ” Freedom not to share..”
First i was confused, by this verse, then after reading the quote frm GPL frm Sriram, things were clear, but i dont figure out why some one would let others know that he has taken a code frm a GPL released software and release under proprietary condition. lol. may be he is doing something illegal, unethical, unsocial, watever may be, but who knows that he took a code frm that piece..??

I jus think i need a day’s time to jus read the entire GPL and other releated licences like CDDL, etc.. to come to a conclusion….and @ one quote, RMS was mentioning of helping neighbours , i dont know who is caring in India, or atleast in Madurai or Coimbatore ( jus these places since iam seeing wat happens here..) about these licence issues of MS and other companies..Iam talking about home users, leave all corporates, they got dollars to invest on any software they need.

One BE student , goes to his friend, asks for a Windows Xp cd, gets it, gets the service pack, loads it, jus as easy as getting water frm waterbottle with a small plastic seal…, MS can never find it, until he connects to net, which many of the home pc users rarely do, ( they are concerned with tel bills, most of my friends use net in college or in cafe )

RMS told that MS people collect personal details frm the user, iam not sure , so no comments on this.

RMS can say linux is more stable etc.. but he not talking this in technical point, and my friends gave a blank stare @ me when he started to speak abt the threat to ‘freedom’, fine everythign is ok.

Conclusion : Archu will release a code of somethign ( which i may write or may not write ! ) and help community and neighbours, and one personal note to all who read this, dont sue me :-S,for talking bad abt RMS / patents / MS
I talk watever i like.. this is my ‘freedom’ and i think it is fine, until Iam talking somethign wrong..and until it affects ur freedom.

Same way , I say, that || Freedom is fine, unless misused ||, how simple

Athai Passed Away || Appa and Paati in Bombay

Today morning i answered the phone call at about 8:20 Am, Appa was on the other side, from bombay, i was surprised and puzzled … gave the phone to Amma, who was very much in a hurry to office, Appa told Amma that Mythili athai passed away in the mornign by 7:15 Am.. We were shocked and upset,since appa spoke to us yesterday, and we heard that she is in the same condition, but appa felt she is deteriorating..

Things have gone worse and finally she is not with us in this moment

Dot net user group meet || washing Machine || Vellore

Yesterday had the dotnet meet in the college, thanks to Arthi + Aarthi for making this possible, Arthi was making all efforts for this to happen. And nice to have Aarthi @ the scheduled time. Nice that i can help them for few hours n my rough un organised schedule..LOL….

Sriram (CNUG) asked me abt the meet and i exaplained abt the slides etc..

So, My journey to vellore is confirmed today.
I will leave to chennai tonight , jus went to railway station and got the thatkal ticket.. they are charging 150/- Rs extra.. hmmm.. wat to do.. i want to go, no other way.. So thats it, yet to take my things, jus a dress will do i think. Eager to see RMS @ Vellore. Informed Mani abt my plan, no news frm him, if i get his mail today i can meet him @ VIT, most of my VIT friends would be busy with the organising committee.. like Ankit etc.. most of them are into presentations. Iam jus going to watch the event for sunday, i still didnt get the return ticket, let me see somethign can be done i hope..

Washed all the clothes, that i dumped for a week frm appa’s departure to bombay. Jus everythign is over. i plan to sleep now and wash myself by evening and leave to the railway station… Let me see how things are turning out..
